Traditional script of the Meitei people of Manipur, India. Displaced by Bengali script under 18th-century Hindu influence, revived by a 20th-century cultural renaissance. Gained official script status through a 2021 constitutional amendment. Classical Manipuri dance (Ras Leela), traditional martial arts (Sarit Sarak), and oral mythology (Puya Meithel) are recorded in this script. A symbol of a people who maintained their distinct culture at the geopolitically critical triple border of China, Myanmar, and India.
