The smaller of two scripts used by the Khitan Empire (Liao dynasty, 916–1125). Influenced by Chinese but developed its own syllabic system. It disappeared after the Jin dynasty conquered the Khitans in 1125, and was only partially deciphered in the 20th century — still not fully understood.
