Traditional script of the Newar people of Kathmandu Valley. Thousands of Sanskrit and Nepal Bhasa Buddhist manuscripts are preserved in this script. Suppressed under the Shah and Rana regimes in the 18th–19th centuries, it was revived by a 20th-century cultural renaissance movement.
