Script of Palmyra, a Syrian Desert oasis city (1st century BC–3rd century AD). Queen Zenobia of Palmyra, recorded in this script, is one of the most powerful female leaders in history. In 2015, ISIS occupied Palmyra and destroyed ancient temples and inscriptions. Artifacts inscribed in this script became some of the world's most valuable looted cultural property.
