Created in 1686 by Zanabazar, a Mongolian polymath — Buddhist scholar, artist, and physician. The first Soyombo symbol (☸) became the national symbol now featured on Mongolia's flag and coat of arms. Zanabazar was the defining figure of the Mongolian renaissance, equally accomplished in sculpture, painting, and medicine.
