Fictional script designed by J.R.R. Tolkien in the 1930s for his constructed languages Quenya and Sindarin. A sophisticated featural script based on real phonological principles — reflecting Tolkien's background as a professional linguist. The title of The Lord of the Rings cover is written in Tengwar. Actively used worldwide by fans: engraving Tengwar on wedding rings and tattoos has become fashionable. It gained mainstream recognition through Peter Jackson's film adaptations.
