15~19세기 북인도 라자스탄·펀자브·신드 지역 상인 계층(마하잔)이 사용한 상업 문자. 회계장부·계약서·무역 기록에 특화된 필기체로 발전했다. 인도 분리 독립(1947) 후 힌디·우르두가 공식화되면서 사라졌지만, 라자스탄의 일부 고령 상인들은 21세기까지도 이 문자를 사용했다.
