Bopomofo (Zhuyin Fuhao)
Extension of standard Bopomofo for writing Taiwanese dialects including Southern Min and Hakka.
Extension of standard Bopomofo for writing Taiwanese dialects including Southern Min and Hakka. Established in Taiwan in the 1990s. Also used to record Taiwanese indigenous languages (16 languages including Amis and Atayal). Unlike Pinyin used for Mainland Chinese education, this is Taiwan's own independent standard — part of the Republic of China's cultural identity. Maintained as the first step in Taiwanese children's education even in the digital age.
