Large Script (Dazi) of the Khitan Liao dynasty (916–1125). Created by Emperor Abaoji in 920 based on Chinese characters. One of two Khitan script systems alongside the Small Script, with 2,000+ signs. Only partially decoded in the 20th century. Along with Jurchen and Tangut scripts, a rare example of independent script invention within the Chinese cultural sphere. Khitan language research provides important clues for understanding Mongolic and Turkic language genealogy.
