Script centered in Kashmir (8th–12th century). "Sharada" derives from the name of Saraswati, the goddess of learning. The ancestor of several north Indian scripts — Kaithi, Takri, Dogra, Khudawadi — collectively called the "Sharada family." Thousands of Kashmir Hindu and Buddhist Sanskrit manuscripts are preserved in this script. The Kashmiri Pandit community continues to use it in religious ceremonies today.
