Mongolian script created by Zanabazar in 1686. The Soyombo symbol (☸) became the national symbol on Mongolia's flag and coat of arms. Zanabazar was the defining figure of the Mongolian renaissance — equally accomplished in sculpture, painting, and medicine; his Buddha statues are considered the pinnacle of Mongolian art. Created more for artistic and religious than practical purposes, it is still found in temple inscriptions and Buddhist art.
