Baybayin, the traditional script of the Philippines. Used throughout the Philippines before 16th-century Spanish colonization. Though replaced by Latin after conquest, a powerful revival movement emerged in the 21st century. In 2018, the Philippine House of Representatives passed a bill designating Baybayin as the national script; it now appears on banknotes, stamps, and public signs. Baybayin tattoos have become a trend among Filipino youth expressing national identity.
